I love any excuse for a party and the Super Bowl never lets me down. Even if I'm not a huge fan of the two teams playing in the game, I always watch for the commercials and half time show. I am a little more excited this year because the Falcons are in it! Growing up in Georgia has ensured my love for all Georgia teams. I'm definitely college football fan (Go Dawgs!) over NFL teams, but I love football in general.
I'm sharing a few snacks that I like to call "football food." Growing up, anytime we were watching a game at home on the tv, my mom always made us "football food" which are just yummy snacks that you can nibble on through out the game. Here are some of my favorites.
Buffalo Chicken Dip // This has to be my number one "football food." I'm a big fan of spicy foods, but this dip is delicious whether you crank up the heat or tone it down with a mild buffalo sauce.
-1 package (8 oz) of cream cheese, softened
-1/2 cup of ranch or blue cheese dressing (whichever you prefer...I also know people who use both!)
-1/2 cup of hot sauce (I prefer Texas Pete, but have also used Franks Red Hot)
-Whole rotisserie chicken pulled off the bone (or 2 cups of shredded chicken)
-Shredded cheese to sprinkle as needed
Mix together cream cheese, ranch/blue cheese dressing, hot sauce and chicken. Sprinkle shredded cheese over the top as needed. Place in an oven safe dish and bake at 350 degrees until cheese is bubbling on top.
Chicken Wings with various dipping sauces // Wings are always a go to during football season in my book. I like to get plain wings from Publix (or your local grocery store) and have different types of dipping sauces for everyone! You can also get frozen wings and fry or bake them yourself. I like to have buffalo, ranch, blue cheese, and a sweet sauce as the dipping choices.
Taco Soup // This is one of my mom's signature recipes. We usually have this around the first day of fall to ring in a new season and she'll make it for football games and parties, too.
-2 lbs of ground beef
-2 cans of kidney beans
-2 cans of black beans
-1 package of frozen corn
-2 large cans of petite diced tomatoes
-2 packets of taco seasoning
-1 packet of ranch dip mix
-1 can of Rotel peppers (optional)
This can be made in a crockpot or on the stovetop. Cook ground beef until brown. In a large dish (or crockpot) add ground beef and remaining ingredients. Add water as needed (depending on how "soupy" you want it) and salt to taste. Let it simmer on low to heat.
Meat & Cheese Dip // I love dips and chips. This one has been a go to for parties, showers, games, anything, really. It's super easy to make in the crockpot!
-1.5 lbs of ground beef
-1 package of Velveeta block cheese
-1 can of Rotel peppers (optional)
Cook ground beef until brown, place in crockpot with Velveeta cheese and Rotel peppers and let it cook on high until melted. After it's melted and stirred, keep it simmering on low so it's stays warm.
Veggie tray with dipping sauces // This is a quick and easy snack that everyone loves. It also makes me not feel as guilty about eating all this other delicious food ;) Pick up a tray from your local grocery store or pick the veggies you want and make your own. Add some ranch and blue cheese dipping sauce and you're good to go!
Pulled pork sliders // My mouth is currently watering as I type this. My dad got a smoker a couple of years ago and we've been in pulled pork heaven ever since. Try smoking your own pork or you can order a couple of pounds of meat from your favorite BBQ restaurant. Pick up some miniature buns and BBQ sauces and you've got yourself some sliders!
Do you have any plans for the Super Bowl?
Stay sunny,
Katie
