SNOW DAY

Winter has officially arrived...or Jonas, I guess! Either way, I'm so happy to see snow! Being from Georgia, I rarely got to see any snow. When it did snow in my hometown, it was either flurries that didn't stick or if they did, it only lasted a day or so. Since living in Tennessee, I get more of the cold and snow than I ever did in Georgia. I couldn't let this beautiful snow day pass without taking full advantage and getting a blog shoot in! Needless to say, the snow pushed my other shoot I had planned back a few days, but I'm totally ok with that because it has been an absolute gorgeous last few days.

OUTFIT DETAILS: pom pom hat // J. Crew Factory coat // Ski sweater (similar linked) // Jeans // Sperry boots // wool socks // fair isle gloves (similar linked)

what better day to wear a ski sweater that a snow day?!

sometimes you try to take cute pictures of throwing snow and your dog steals the shot...

and sometimes you throw the snow and it hits you right in the eye...

and then you finally get a good one!

T'was a good snow day, indeed.

Can we just take a minute and look at how beautiful these trees are? Right in my backyard...just so much goodness!

OBSESSING OVER

Every January, I find myself partially wanting summer time and partially loving the coziness of winter. I'm always pretty shopped out for a while because of all the hustle and bustle of the holidays but I always keep my eye out for some transitional pieces or some great things for the warmer days ahead of us! (far, far ahead of us...ha!)

Here's what I've been obsessing over lately.

Is this not the coziest sweater you've ever seen? Loving it in heather grey but it also comes in ivory. It's hard for me to resist a cozy turtleneck in these freezing temps!

Like I need yet another striped shirt...but I can't turn down a classic. I love them because they can be worn all year round and this one is a great price!

Y'ALL. To say I'm "obsessing" over these sneaks is an absolute understatement. I need them. You know when you see something and you can literally picture a thousand ways to wear it? Well, that's what happened when I saw these babies. Aren't they awesome?! I get this futuristic meets classic vibe when I look at them. Gah I just love them.

I saw this Kate Spade agenda on Kate Spade's Instagram and thought it was so adorable! Got any fashionista friends out there that would love this?

Just look at those tassels. In love with this backpack and it also comes in an adorable crossbody and clutch

Still haven't pulled the trigger on these beauties but I think I might have to soon. I just love the retro and classic vibe. Can't shake the feeling, ya know? ;)

Tory Burch does it again...the tassels. Be still my heart. The perfect summer crossbody

Might be going a little tassel crazy but aren't these the prettiest statement earrings

The prettiest vase, in my opinion.

If you know me at all, you know my obsession with pineapples. Yes, I love to eat pineapples but I really prints, pillows, jars, bookends with pineapples...I know, it's weird. Loving these gold pineapple jars!

Here is an adorable pineapple print. Gotta love em.

Three of my favorite colors in one pillow. I'll take it.

It is a dream of mine to one day live in NYC, even if only for a little while. I came across this book and it didn't make the urge any less steady.

What are some things that you're loving right now?

Katie

2016: GOALS

Hey sunny readers! I'm sorry I've been MIA for the last couple of weeks. I've been feeling a bit uninspired lately, so I decided to take a little hiatus and come back with some fresh content.

I have some outfit shoots scheduled for this weekend, but in the mean time I wanted to share with you some of my goals for this year! A year is a long time, so I decided to break my goals down into sections so I don't feel so overwhelmed when I'm trying to accomplish them.

2016 GOALS

 Health

-Drink more water and less caffeine. I'll be the first to say I love Coca cola and Diet Dr Pepper and I drink way too much of it. I also love coffee, but I usually stick to only one cup a day so I probably won't change that. A friend of mine recently told me that's it's easier to drink water throughout the day if you have a water bottle you love, so I'm giving it a try!

-Get back to working out consistently. Before I moved, I worked out 5 days a week and I loved it. I went to a workout class that I loved so much and made friends who encouraged me every time I came into the gym and it made such a huge difference in how I viewed working out. It became more about being healthy and wanting to be good to my body and being strong, rather than just going because I want to be skinny. I can't go without saying that I had a great work schedule that allowed me to do that and I realize it's not very realistic for many. My goal is to not only be more consistent, but mix it up with things like hiking, a cycling class, an at home workout, etc. Most importantly, just get moving!

-Go to bed earlier. My work schedule tends to control this the most because I work inconsistent hours. So, I guess my goal is to go to bed earlier when my schedule allows it. (and stop binge watching Netflix... :) )

-Eat more veggies. I always eat cleaner/healthier in the warmer months than in the colder ones. So, my goal is to keep it up all year round! I'm not saying don't indulge every once in a while, but also be good to your body!

-Be more positive. I spent too much of 2015 being negative and bitter about things I couldn't control and that, my friends, is not a way to live. Don't worry, be happy!

 Travel

-Visit a sweet friend of mine in Boise and another sweet friend in Chicago. These are the only two trips I actually for sure have planned. (so unbelievably excited for these!!!!)

-Visit Williamsburg, VA again. My family took a vacation to Williamsburg about ten or eleven years ago and I'm dying to go back. My dad and I have always talked about visiting again and I think this year we should make it happen!

-I'm also dying to go to DC, NYC, and Europe and I'm always down for a beach/tropical trip!

 Financial

-Create a real budget and stick to it. I didn't save my money as well as I would have liked to in 2015 and I think it was because I didn't follow a budget and that made it a little harder to keep track of.

 Beauty

-Have healthy, natural hair again. My natural hair color is a medium brown. I highlighted my hair for the first time ever after I graduated from high school and spent the next 4 years getting it back (and growing out) to my natural hair color. I finally got it all back natural when I donated 10 inches and then a month later I highlighted it again (...whoops). I love my hair blonde, but I do not like when my roots start growing out and I don't like how often I have to keep it up. I've decided to go back natural so come January 27th, this blonde will be a brunette again! Whoo!

major hair envy over here... source

 Style

-Don't be totally constrained by a specific style. 2015 was definitely a year of figuring out exactly what I wanted my style to be and what was worth spending my money on and my blog definitely had an influence on it. I wouldn't exactly call myself "trendy" as much as I used be, but I would be lying if I said I didn't love my over-the-knee boots and big floppy hats. As much as I adore all things preppy, I think my style as morphed into more "classic with a few trendy pieces" at least that's what I would like it to be ;) hehe. Ultimately, I want to wear what I like because I like it, not because it fits a certain type of style.

this is so simple and I love it... source

 Blogging

-Be proud of everything I post. I never want to post something just to post it. I also don't want to post something just because I think more people will read it because of that reason alone.

-Post more 'lifestyle' and 'how to' posts. I started this blog as a fashion blog, which I'll always include, but I want to start adding more how-to videos and things that aren't fashion related because my life isn't all fashion related. I want to be real.

 Hobbies

-Read more books and watch less television. I love to read. Sadly, I don't make near enough time for it and usually make more for Netflix. My goal for now is to read 3-5 books a month in all different genres. I just downloaded the app "Goodreads" to keep track of everything I've read and want to read.

-Hike more. My dad and I love to hike and try to go as much as we can when I'm off work. One of our goals is a 9 mile trail called 'The Sinks' and we're working up to it!

-Learn to play golf. I'm not really sure why I suddenly got into golf. I mean I've always watched the Master's but that's about as far as my golf game as gone. My brother plays all the time and loves it and I want to give it a try!

 Faith

-Have a lot more faith in the Lord and His plan in all areas of my life than my own. I struggle with this immensely and it's something I have to revisit in prayer everyday. I'm still transitioning from being a college student to an "adult" (I say that very lightly) and moving to a new town and there are so many unanswered questions right now about what I really want to do, want to be and where to go from here, but the Lord will provide. Speaking of faith...I plan to do more faith based posts to share with you about the great God I serve.

Say what you mean and mean what you say

-This shouldn't have taken me as long as it has to figure out, but it is so much better to come out and say exactly what you mean and don't skirt around anything. I think so many of us get caught up in worrying too much about what other people will think of us if we don't have a good enough reason for not doing something or not feeling a certain way, but the honest answer is always the best answer. We should strive to be more straight forward with our peers and be honest in a gentle and loving way. If someone asks you on a date and you don't want go, instead of saying you have something else to do just to get out of it, just simply say, "I'm not interested but thanks for the invite." It'll go over so much better on both ends and gets the right message across. If someone asks you to do something really late at night and you're tired and don't feel like going- being tired is a good reason...just tell them! It won't be rude, it'll be honest. (those examples might be silly but it's really just that simple!)

And there ya have it! I hope I have inspired some goals of your own for 2016. Make this year a good one!

Stay sunny,

Katie

THE BILTMORE HOUSE ON NEW YEAR'S DAY

Happy New Year! I hope y'all had a great first day of 2016. My birthday (and my brother- I'm a twin!) was on Tuesday and I wanted to visit the Biltmore House, but it was raining all week so we ended up going yesterday. This is the second time I've been during Christmastime (or when they still have the decorations up) and I'm dying to go in the spring when everything has bloomed. Let me just say- if you've never been before, GO! It's truly incredible and a little bit surreal.

My brother's girlfriend and her mom came to visit for our birthday and we had so much fun touring the house. They were here most of the week so it was really nice to spend some time with them since we've moved!

I decided to change my outfit last minute with the chance of rain and warm weather moving out and the cold coming in. I was originally going to wear a skirt, but I'm so glad I didn't because it was so cold! I got these gorgeous over the knee boots for my birthday and I'm in love! I never would have thought I would like these, much less ever want them but I feel so chic in them. They have chunky heel, which if you're going to wear a heel, is perfect for walking around a lot. I also love them in grey and taupe. I typically like to wear classic pieces with one or two trendy things, but I loved this entire outfit when I tried it on. I've never really been a "hat girl" but a friend of mine wore one recently and I loved how it looked so I thought I'd give it a try!

The view of the mountains were incredible behind the house from the balcony. Here's my twin brother!

The Biltmore has a hotel and a few more places on the grounds where you can stay and make a fun weekend getaway. After we visited the house we drove over (it's on 8000 acres) to the winery and tasted some wine. It was so fun! You can visit the greenhouse and vineyard any time of the year but I would love to go during the spring when all the flowers are bloomed and it's a bit warmer. I also saw the sweetest proposal in front of the Biltmore house. It was picture perfect! (Hint hint to anyone who wants to propose to me ;) hehe)

How did you spend your New Year's Day?

Stay sunny,

Katie
