The view from our new cabin!
Cove Mountain
So, if you haven't heard yet, my family and I have moved from my hometown in middle Georgia all the way to the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee! For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to live in Tennessee. Although my choice of city has changed a million times over the years, the mountains in Tennessee has never wavered.
Here's how it all went down: Since I was little (like maybe 5 or so) my family has always vacationed in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Literally every single year. I realize that might sound crazy to other people, but that was our vacation spot and I looked forward to it every year. We've only ever been somewhere else twice- once to Williamsburg, VA (amazing) and once to Ft. Walton Beach, Florida (gorgeous). And then back to the mountains we went. My parents started toying with the idea of buying a cabin and moving about 4 years ago. It wasn't super serious at first, just looking online here and there. After years of praying for direction and what would be best for everyone, my parents decided it would be best to wait until my brother and I had graduated college. I graduated in December of 2014 and my brother graduated this May from the University of Georgia. (Go Dawgs!) At this point, my parents had gotten a realtor and had looked at a few places near and around Pigeon Forge but weren't really finding the cabin. They looked at a lot of beautiful places but there was always something that turned them off like the trek up the mountain (hello getting stuck for a week in the snow/ice), no view (not an option), or teeny-tiny closets that couldn't be renovated. The thing with log cabins, is that most of them are built to be rented so the closets are built for a weeks worth of clothing and typically can't be opened up any bigger. So, now they were on the hunt for a live in cabin with bigger closet space, no sheetrock, a great view, and little to no yard. (Daddy is so over cutting the grass/yard work!) With the house in Georgia still not on the market, things were kind of at a standstill. My dad was mentioning wanting to sell the house and move to a friend at the gym and he said his daughter and son-in-law were looking for a house and they might be interested. They exchanged numbers and got in contact with the family and they decided to come and look at our house. (Yay!) We really didn't think a whole lot of it because this was the first time anyone had looked at our house and it wasn't even on the market yet. They came, looked, and left. We didn't hear anything for a while and during that time we spoke with a realtor about putting it on the market within the next week or so. Then, the family who came and looked at it called us back and said they were seriously interested and wanted to come look again. (again, Yay!) While trying not to get our hopes up, they were sky high. The family came and looked again (like really looked) and didn't give any inclination as to what they had decided. We decided to wait on putting the house on the market until we heard back. We waited and waited and were getting a bit discouraged and then finally got the call we were hoping for. They made an offer and we accepted! (ok YAY!!!) We were super thrilled and in a little bit disbelief of how everything happened. The next few weeks were crucial/insane because we had to make a decision on what my parents wanted to buy. Thankfully, the neighborhood they wanted to be in had a few great places for sale and we looked at a couple and made an offer on the one with the *amazing* view pictured above :) Crazy how things work out.
We have been here a week now and I am absolutely LOVING it! And my parents are, too :) I think I'll stick around for a bit longer, mom & dad ;)
I am beyond thankful for the Lords precious timing and not mine. I am thankful that my dream of living in Tennessee coincides with my parents because I don't want to be too far away from them. I am thankful for wonderful, loving parents who allow me to figure out my next steps in life in their home. (Anyone hiring in the Knoxville area?? ;) ) Praise be to God.
